Pastor Robert Karthak was born in Kalimpong (Darjeeling, India) on 10th January 1926. Although born into a Christian family, he personally experienced the ‘new birth’ in Jesus Christ 20 yrs later in 1947, through the ministry of Jordan Khan. In 1954 he was made Secretary of the Youth work for the local United Church of North India.

In 1955, he felt a strong calling and had a growing desire to go to Nepal. One day, during his devotion time, he received John 10:16 confirming him of his calling to Nepal. Thus in 1956 he moved to Nepal with a small group of believers.

Pastor Robert Karthak is one of the founding members of the Nepali Isai Mandali or Gyaneshwor Church which was established in 1957. He continues to give himself fully to the Lord and to the ministry that God has called him to. Today Nepali Isai Mandali has a network of churches all over the country with a joint congregation of over 12000 believers.
